Kemenangan Khairy ini, yang diberikan amaran berhubung kesalahan melanggar tataetika pertanding Umno, dibantah oleh sekumpulan kira-kira 200 penyokong Mukhriz.

Berkumpul di tingkat bawah PWTC sejak keputusan rasmi diumumkan 11.20 malam ini, mereka melaungkan "Khairy rasuah" dan menyifatkan kemenangan ini bukan seperti dihasratkan oleh Umno.

Sepasukan polis sedang mengawal mereka, yang kelihatan menghalang pihak berwajib dengan membentuk "rantaian manusia" daripada menyuraikan mereka (Malaysiakini 25/3/09)

Angry Mukhriz and Khir supporters continued shouting outside the hall where Khairy was giving his acceptance speech and wrapping up proceedings of the Umno Youth general assembly.

In the wake of the announcement, a group of about 200 Mukhriz supporters held an impromtu rally at about 11.30pm to protest against the surprise election results.

"Khairy, rasuah (corruption)," they shouted, venting their frustration.

They were later joined by about 200 Khairy supporters and both sides began taunting each other.
